Riga’s old town

Riga is the capital of Latvia founded back in 1201 by the German crusaders. Riga is also known as “little Paris” mostly because of the number of small shops and cosy cafés spread all over old town.

Riga is probably one of the best cities in Europe to walk around in and enjoy the finest collection of Art Nouveau architecture (see pictures below). The old town is almost undisturbed by cars and other motorists which gives total freedom for pedestrians to enjoy and take their holiday snapshot.

We come to Riga ever so often. The city is great for enjoying pancakes and coffee. And should you get hungry for real traditional food then we will encourage you to visit one of the many “Lido” restaurants. If you have children with you, you most go to “Lido” on Krasta Iela. The restaurant is huge, the food selection is enormous and there is a good and big play area for children. Highchairs are available.

Riga is excellent for a city break with plenty of centrally located hotels. You will find yourself in one of Europe’s greatest cities and only 20 minutes drive away from the long sandy beaches in Jurmala.
